PUNAKHA FESTIVAL in FEBRUARY 10 Days 9 Nights

 

DAY 1 Paro

  • Flight into Paro by Druk-Air.
  • Delightful lunch in Paro valley.
  • Visit Ta Dzong, the watch tower of Paro Dzong which now houses the national museum.
  • Visit the Jowo Temple of Kyichu, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan

 

DAY 2 Thimphu

  • Begin our journey by Thimphu Tashichho Dzong Mask Dance Festival 
  • Visit Folk Heritage Museum
  • Thirteen art and craft institute: popularly known as zorig chusum
  • Motithang Mini Zoo: where you can see Takin, the National Animal of Bhutan
  • Visit nunnery (The women monk temple) for drawing and meditation ​
  • In the afternoon, we go to Bhutan Post office to make stamp and visit handmade paper factory

 

DAY 3 Thimphu – Punakha

  • Visit Punakha Dzong, the administrative Centre of Punakha Dzongkha in Bhutan and winter capital for Thimphu monks

 

DAY 4 Punakha – Bumthang

  • To Wangdue Bridge where you can see the ruins of Wangdue Dzong which was damaged by fire.  
  • Pass through Pelela Pass (3,350m) with many colorful prayer flags in the background, excellent for photo takings.
  • Have our lunch at a local restaurant called Norbu yangkhil
  • Continue our journey to Trongsa en routing Chendebji chorten built in the style of the great Bodhanath stupa of Nepal
  • Continue to Bumthang after our tea break

 

DAY 5 Bumthang Mask Dance Festival

After breakfast you will visit the following cultural sites:  

  • Kurji Lhakhang to have a short session of drawing and mediation and take a gradual hike to Tamshing Monastery
  • Tamshing Monastery where you can experience a Swinging Bridge
  • Visit Konchogsum Lhakhang (the triple gems monastery)
  • Visit Jakar Dzong, which is the administrative center of Bumthang and Buddhism institute for monk.

 

DAY 6 Bumthang – Gangtey

  • Visit Trongsa Dzong, which was built in 463 years ago and is the largest fortress in Bhutan
  • Visit Ta Dzong, the watch tower of Paro Dzong which now houses the national museum

 

DAY 7 Gangtey-Thimphu

  • Visit Gangtey Monastery  

 

DAY 8 Thimphu – Paro

After breakfast you will visit :  

  •  Changangkha Lhakhang: built in the 13th century
  • Kuensel Phodrang: Big Buddha
  • Memorial Stupa: “a chorten to represent the mind of the Buddha”.
  • Shopping at Thimphu
  • Tachogang Monastery  

 

DAY 9 Paro Tiger’s Nest

After breakfast you will visit :  

  • Hiking to Taktshang (the Tiger’s Nest).
  • After hiking, we will arrange a hot stone bath (in self-expense) so you can relax and release the muscle tense
  • Dinner and enjoy cultural dance performance in the last night in Bhutan

 

DAY 10 Farewell Bhutan
