15-Day Itinerary
DAY 1 Gunwahati – Samdrup Jongkhar
- Flight into Guwahati India to take an alternative way to Bhutan
- Reach Samdrup Jongkhar, the South Eastern Dzongkhag of Bhutan border for a delightful lunch
- Night halt at Deothang Monastery
DAY 2 Samdrup Jongkhar – Barshong (Tashigang)
- Visit Barshong Monastery in Tashigang
- Visit Zangdopelri Monastery which consist of unique and wonderful detailed murals and ceiling mandalas
- Visit Handloom, the National Weaving Center and to National Institute for Disabled
- Night halt at Barshong Monastery
DAY 3 Barshong – Tashigang
- Visit Barshong Monastery to make morning prayer
- Take a short hike to visit a farm house in Barshong valley
- After lunch, visit a line of eight chorten to enjoy the fine views
- Reach Kanglung where you can see a clock tower and campus of Sherubtse College, a feel of a Himalaya hill-station
- Drive crossing the valley of Rong Thong and visit main town of Trashigang
DAY 4 Tashigang – Rangjung – Tashigang
- Visit Tashigang Dzong, built in 1659 by Trongsa Penlop Minjur Tenpa and served for centuries as an administrative headquarters and monastery
- Visit Rangjung Ösel Chöling Monastery
- Drive back to Tashigang and spend some times in some remote villages with villagers
DAY 5 Tashigang – Tashiyangtse – Tashigang
- Drive to Gom Kora, an extraordinarily picturesque temple for sunrise
- Go to Tashiyangtshe, the town known for excellent wooden cups and bowls making from avocado and maple wood
- Visit Chorten Kora
DAY 6 Tashigang – Mongar
- After breakfast, we will go to Mongar, the second largest town in the Eastern Bhutan
- In Yadi Loops, we will spend some time in taking pictures
- Visit Mongar Dzong, a very tradition Bhutanese architecture
DAY 7 Tashigang – Mongar
- Go to Lingmithang for sunrise
- Drive to Thrumshing La, the second-highest mountain pass in Bhuta
- Visit some of the schools and villages in Ura and Tangsibi
DAY 8 Bumthang
- Drive to a private monastery at the hill named Padtselling Gonpa
- Visit the ancient monastery called Jambay Lhakhang and Khachu monastery for sunset
DAY 9 Bumthang
- Drive to an ancient monastery named Buli monastery
- Visit Gyatsa valley and a Gyatsa primary school.
- Drive to the Trongsa town and visit the Trongsa fortress and the watch tower, where is a national museum today.
- Night halt at hotel in Trongsa
DAY 10 Bumthang to Gangtoe
- Visit Trongsa Dzong, which was built in 463 years ago and is the largest fortress in Bhutan
- Visit Chendebji Chorten, built in the style of the great Bodhanath stupa of Nepal; where we spend time for photo shooting and lunch
- Pass through Pelela Pass (3,350m) with many colorful prayer flags in the background
- Reach Gangtoe monastery for sunset
- Night halt at a farm house to experience a local life
DAY 11 Gangtoe to Punakha
- Enjoy the sunrise photographing of Phobjikha
- Drive to Punakha to visit the temple of fertility
- Enjoy green rice fields of Punakha and we may see villagers harvesting.
- Night halt at Hotel in Punakha
DAY 12 Punakha to Thimphu
- Enjoy the sunrise in Talo, top of the hill in Punakha
- Drive to Thimphu via Dochula passes, the highest point with an elevation of 3,050 meters above sea level for sunset
- Take a walk around the 108 memorial Chortens, one of the most beautiful passes facing toward eastern Himalayas
- Tea break at Dochula Hotel
- Passing some small villages named Hongtsho
- Night halt in Thimphu
DAY 13 Thimphu
- Enjoy the sunrise in Dechen Phodrang and participate in the monk morning activities
- Visit the National Zoo Talo, where the endangered national animal of Bhutan – Takin is taken care there
- Visit National Institute of Art and Craft
- After lunch, visit Tashichhodzong, Central administrative government building and summer capital of monk
- Visit Kuenzang Phordang, the world’s biggest sitting Buddha for sunset
DAY 14 Thimphu to Paro
- Enjoy the sunrise in Simtokha Fortress
- Visit Simtokha Dzong, built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal
- Depart for Paro en routing Tacho gang monastery to Paro valley for sunset
DAY 15 Farewell Bhutan
- Visit the Paro fortress
- Farewell Bhutan
